Resilience

My journey was anything but ordinary. Born with a visual impairment, I navigated a world that often seemed indifferent to my struggles. From a young age, I encountered skepticism and doubt. Yet, my resolve remained unshaken. I viewed my challenges not as barriers but as opportunities to demonstrate my resilience and determination.

My journey took a significant turn when I received a scholarship to study IT Network Engineering. This was a rare chance, one that not only promised personal growth but also a chance to redefine the boundaries imposed by my condition. With sheer grit and a passion for technology, I excelled in my studies, demonstrating that my impairment did not limit my intellectual potential.

Upon completing my studies, I was offered an internship at Safaricom PLC, one of the leading telecommunications companies in Kenya. The IT Service Desk role was pivotal, as it involved providing critical support to customers and ensuring smooth operations across the company's IT infrastructure. For me , this was a dream opportunity—a chance to apply my skills in a real-world setting and contribute to a renowned organization.

My first day at Safaricom was a whirlwind of emotions. The bustling office was filled with people and technology, and while some might have seen the environment as overwhelming, I felt an exhilarating sense of purpose. I was equipped with adaptive technology that allowed me to perform my duties effectively: screen readers, Braille displays, and specialized software were my tools of the trade.

My colleagues were initially curious but quickly became supportive. They admired my ability to handle complex IT issues with precision and efficiency. My work ethic was exceptional, and I approached every problem with a blend of analytical skill and empathy. Customers, too, appreciated my dedication. My ability to communicate clearly and resolve issues swiftly earned him respect from those I assisted.

One particularly memorable incident involved a major network outage that had impacted many users. The pressure was immense, and the stakes were high. I , undeterred by the chaos, used my extensive training and problem-solving skills to diagnose the issue. Through a combination of methodical troubleshooting and calm under pressure, I played a crucial role in restoring the network. My contribution was instrumental, and my colleagues lauded my expertise and poise.

My journey at Safaricom PLC went beyond technical achievements. I became a symbol of perseverance and capability, challenging stereotypes and proving that visual impairment is not a limitation to success. My presence inspired others, fostering a more inclusive and understanding work environment.

Through my experiences, I demonstrated that with the right support and determination, it is possible to break through societal barriers and excel in any field. My story is a testament to the power of resilience and the importance of creating opportunities for everyone, regardless of their challenges.

I take this opportunity to thank everyone that has contributed to my saxes.
Thank you all.
